LAN Project (Local Area Network) is a collaborative art production created by Melanie Gonzalez & Tyler PSwitch Dow. Launching in June 2016 with an art exhibition and closing with a music festival, the LAN creators are bringing multimedia art from the walls of the internet to their hometown in The Bronx, NY.
The
LAN Project Exhibition showcases the works of 8 millennial artists (including the two curators) of diverse backgrounds: digital media, photography, sculpture, painting & live performance. This exhibition features artists from different neighborhoods, art scenes & industries celebrating the experience of constantly undergoing rapid change. The opening featured a live performance of Frac/King KOO, a live action mixtape from Tyler PSwitch Dow.

The
LAN MIND FEST is the musical extension of the project, presenting art that cannot be contained to a canvas or sculpture setting. This closing festival features a comedy set and music performances by artists from a multitude of genres.

The closing festival will be held at the Bronx Music Heritage Center on Saturday, June 25th , 2016 from 2pm-7pm. Suggested entry donation is $5. This exhibition was made in partnership with BxArts Factory, BMHCLab & WHEDco.

I am Longwood Arts Festival. By Tasha Valentino

On July 4, 2016 the BxArts Factory participated in their 2nd event of the summer.  They were one of the many artisans who came out to the "I am Longwood Arts Festival". The event was a success as they "celebrated and promoted cultural vitality of the arts in the South Bronx".

BxArts Factory had the opportunity to talk to many community members about how they bring art to their homes, what type of art they do and how they feel this has benefited their lives.  The community activity facilitated by awesome volunteers, encouraged participants to have fun with art, stimulated teamwork and promoted creativity without competition.  This was displayed as children, parents, and siblings worked together for a common goal.  They all contributed their time and talents towards a community collage which will be displayed at PS 333.  Members of the community continued to return to the table to see the evolution of the project.  Many commented they were excited to have been a part of the project as it reminded them of the space they live in.  It also bought them a sense of pride and strength to know that, as a community, they are resilient despite individual challenges.

BxArts Factory at the first 2016 Boogie on the Boulevard, May 29th, by John Maney Jr.

May 29th was a lovely, sunny, summerlike day, prefect for the first 2016 Boogie on the Boulevard, in the Bronx. The event begun with setting up tents, tables, and chairs, along the Grand Concourse, starting at 162nd Street. And, of course, there was also the issuing of the coveted pink Boogie on the Boulevard, volunteer t-shirts. Pink not being a natural color choice for me, I tried my best to rock and wear it with pride. After all I was representing the BxArts Factory, and we were at the first tables along the Grand Concourse, right across from the main stage.

The BxArts Factory conducted several fun activities for people as they walked up, and down the Boulevard. At one table Liz and Natalie helped children, and some adults, make beautiful, fancy costumes. While at another table Karen painted old tires to be made into planters. At the table where Omesh and I worked, we took a smiley face/ frowning face survey on whether people did art at home. Then, once the survey was completed, participants wrote on eraser board what their art was, held the boards proudly up to their chests, and Trevon snapped pictures of them.

While all these things were happening Alexis, Twahira, and our tireless leader Laura floated from table to table, making sure everything was running smoothly. And, from what I could tell most everything did. It was a beautiful day, and I was glad to have visited with the over 50 people who stopped by, to spend a little time with the BxArts Factory.
